Food Secretary Nazmanara Khanum has confirmed that rice prices will not go up during Ramadan. She said market surveillance would be intensified to curb stocks.
The food secretary said this while talking to reporters at the secretariat on Wednesday (February 16) morning.
At that time, she said, “The government will take various steps including selling rice to the poor at Tk 10 per kg in the open market ahead of Ramadan. As a result, the price of rice will not increase during Ramadan.”
There is no information about adequate storage of rice in government warehouses in the country as well as illegal storage. Even after that the price of rice is increasing step by step.
In this regard, the food secretary said, “The price of coarse rice has not increased. The price of thin rice is increasing as the consumer is more than the production.”
