At least 13 people have been injured in a clash between two groups of Chittagong University (CU) Chhatra League. The two groups involved in the conflict are CFC and Vijay.
Clashes broke out at Sohrawardy Hall at midnight on Tuesday. The clash lasted for half an hour and resulted in chase-counter chase and brick-throwing between the two sides. Proctorial body and police later came to the spot and brought the situation under control. The situation on campus has been tense since the incident.
The university administration has formed a four-member committee with Assistant Proctor Ramendu Parial as convener and SAM Ziaul Islam as member secretary.
Of the 13 people injured in the clash, five were identified but the rest were not identified. The injured are Nasir Uddin, a student of CFC group’s 18-19 academic year in the Islamic History department, Sattar Shanto of the same department, Apan Islam Megh of the 17-18 academic year history department, Vijay group’s 16-17 academic history student Md. Faisal and Sandhani Jiku, students of the Modern Language Institute of the same academic year.
In this regard, the leader of Vijay Group and former organizing secretary of the branch Chhatra League Mohammad Ilias said, “We have given an ultimatum till January 25 to complete the committee of the branch Chhatra League. Knowing that they will fail to complete the committee within this period, President Rubel launched a surprise attack on our staff to delay the formation of the committee.”
On the other hand, Rezaul Haque Rubel, president of Chhatra League and leader of CFC group, said, “CFC is a bogie-based organization outside Chhatra League. Chhatra League will not take responsibility for any misdeeds committed by them. Elias’ claim was completely baseless and unreasonable. He is repeatedly trying to create such anarchy on campus to question the university branch Chhatra League. He is using his staff for money in his dirty game.”
