13 lakh 6 thousand 718 students have passed HSC and equivalent examinations in 2021. Of these, 1 lakh 89 thousand 169 people got GPA-5, the highest index of results. On the other hand, this time there are about 55,000 seats in public universities and government medical-dental colleges.
As a result, many of these high school students who have passed, even if they get the highest index of results, will not be able to get admission in the higher education institution of their choice. For this reason, students will have to compete fiercely for admission in higher education institutions.
And four medical universities (BSMMU, Chittagong, Sylhet and Rajshahi) offer postgraduate equivalent education. On the other hand, students are admitted separately in the affiliated institutions of National University, Islamic Arabic University and Open University. Apart from these 11 universities, the remaining 39 public universities have the opportunity to admit students directly.
These universities had about 55,000 seats last year. This time it has come down to 50,396. Seats have been reduced from Dhaka University and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology in Gopalganj. Besides, the number of seats in government medical and dental colleges is less than 5,000. The interest of the students is mainly around these educational institutions.
Among the big universities, Dhaka University has 6,085, Chittagong University 4,926, Rajshahi University 4,693, Jahangirnagar University 2,133, Jagannath University 2,756 and Bangladesh University of Engineering 1,215 seats in the coming academic year.
In addition, out of 108 private universities, 100 out of 100 educational programs have about two lakh five thousand seats, 8 lakh 72 thousand 815 in affiliated colleges of National University, 60 thousand in affiliated madrasas affiliated to Islamic Arabic University, 77 thousand 756 in affiliated colleges affiliated to Open University, 440 in two international universities, Dhaka University. 23,330 in seven affiliated colleges, 720 in 4 engineering colleges, 720 in 6 textile colleges, There are 7,500 seats in private medical and dental institutions, 5,600 in public-private nursing and midwifery institutions, 654 in 14 marine and aeronautical colleges, about 3,500 in various institutions affiliated to Dhaka and Rajshahi universities and 290 in affiliated institutions of Chittagong University.
Concerned people say that the number of quality private universities in the country is also insignificant. Besides, this time more students got GPA 5 than other years.
On the other hand, students are waiting for admission in public universities. If you do not get admission there, try to get admission in another affiliated college or private university. Multiple students who have passed HSC said that all students want to be admitted in the higher education institution of their choice. He is the first choice university and science students of BUET, Medical College and Dhaka University.
Professor Muhammad Alamgir, a member of the UGC, said there would be no shortage of seats in higher education this time. However, in the case of quality educational institutions, there is a crisis. 70% of our higher education seats are in affiliated colleges. Students are admitted in public universities without getting opportunity.
