NEW DELHI: Veteran Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently attended an event in the Indian capital dressing like a woman.
He inaugurated the seventh edition of ‘Hijra Habba’ by wearing a dupatta and a bindi to express his support towards the transgender community.
The event is organised to highlight the issues that plague the community.
Gambhir dressed like a woman by putting on a dupatta and a bindi, pictures of which went viral all over the internet.
Gautam Ghambhir has not shown his support to the community for the first time. On the occasion of Rakshabandhan, he posted pictures on his official twitter handle of his tied rakhi with transgender Ajna and Simran.
In this tweet, he wrote, “It is not about being a man or a woman. It’s a matter of being human. Proudly his love on my wrist as Rakhi with Transgenor Abhana Aher and Simran Shaikh. I have accepted them like this. Will you too?”
Gambhir last played for the Indian team in 2016. He had played a pivotal role with his valiant 97 in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph. He scored a plethora of runs in both 2007 T20I World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup which MS Dhoni-led India had won.
Gambhir has played a total of 58 Tests and 147 ODIs for India, scoring 9392 runs in total which includes 20 centuries.
