Abdur Rashid (55), was killed in a land dispute in Mymensingh’s Nandail district. He died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier on Thursday, Abdur Rashid was seriously injured in an attack. A murder case has been lodged at the police station on behalf of the victim’s family.
It is learned that Abdur Rashid has been having a dispute with his cousin Nurul Islam alias Bahar Uddin for 3 years over 10 percent of land in Bishnupur village of Sherpur union of the Upazila. Among them, Jalal Uddin, a member candidate of Nurul Islam’s party, was elected in the January 5 UP election. Nurul Islam threatened Abdur Rashid soon after his favorite candidate won the election.
Later on Thursday afternoon, on his way home from the local market, Nurul Islam and member Jalal Uddin’s men attacked Rashid with homemade weapons near his house. He was seriously injured in the incident. He was later rescued and taken to Nandail Upazila Health Complex and later to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
After treatment there, he went to his father-in-law’s house in Charpara village of Ishwaganj. He died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College on Saturday after his condition deteriorated there.
Mostafa, the eldest son of the deceased, said, “I want exemplary punishment for those who brutally killed my father due to land dispute.”
Nanda Model Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman Akand said a case has been registered in this regard. The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Attempts are being made to arrest the accused.
