A court has sent 49 more people to jail in connection with an attack on a Hindu temple in Noagaon in Shalla Upazila of Sunamganj.
Sunamganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdur Rahim issued the order at noon on Sunday (January 9).
On March 16 last year, supporters of Hifazat-e-Islam attacked, looted, and vandalized a house in Nagaon village in response to a status criticizing Maulana Mamunul Haque from Jhumon Das’s Facebook ID. Five temples in the village were also vandalized. There were three cases in this incident.
113 people have come under the law including an arrest in three cases and voluntary appearing in court. Most of the accused, including UP member Shahidul Islam Swadhin Miah, who is accused of assault, looting, and vandalism have been granted bail.
Investigating officer SI Md. Tojaffel Hossain said filed the charge sheet mentioning the names of 49 other people besides the accused named in the statement. The accused surrendered to the court on Sunday and applied for bail. Following the bail hearing, the judge remanded him in custody.
