Former Minister of State for Information Murad Hasan’s wife Dr. Jahanara Ehsan was accused of torture and abuse. The court allowed the investigation of the general diary (GD) filed by Jahanara Ehsan.
Court sources said, in the context of the application of the GD investigation officer, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid issued the order today (Sunday).
Earlier, Dhanmondi police sub-inspector Rajib Hasan, an investigating officer, applied to the court on Saturday seeking permission for a GD probe.
Last January 6, Dr. Jahanara Ehsan lodged a GD with Dhanmondi Police Station alleging torture against her husband Murad. Earlier, he called the national emergency number 999 and sought police assistance. A 10-member team of Dhanmondi police then rushed to Murad’s house in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Murad Hasan resigned from the cabinet on 7 December. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked him to resign for making offensive and derogatory remarks about women. After resigning, Murad left for Canada on 10 December. However, the Canadian Border Services Agency did not allow him to enter the country. After failing to enter Canada and the United Arab Emirates, he returned to Dhaka on 12 December.
