The Narcotics Control Department has arrested a police constable named Humayun Kabir with 70 bottles of Phensedyl in Kaliganj of Lalmonirhat. His motorcycle was also seized. Kaliganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Rasul confirmed the information on Tuesday (January 11) evening.
Earlier in the morning, Humayun Kabir was arrested from the Sirajul Market area on Kakina Mahipur Road in Upazila. He is working as a constable in Hatibandha Highway Police Station.
Khairul Bashar, assistant director of the Lalmonirhat Narcotics Control Department, said the raid was carried out in the Sirajul Market area of Kakina Mahipur Road in Kaliganj Upazila based on information that various banned drugs from India were going to different places including Dhaka through Mahipur Bridge. One of the motorcyclists was arrested on suspicion. A search of his body and motorcycle later turned up 70 bottles of Phensidyl.
Hatibandha Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Hakim said Humayun Kabir was scheduled to leave for Bogra in the morning. I don’t know why he was detained with drugs.
Kaliganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Rasul said a case was to be filed against Humayun Kabir, who was detained at night under the Narcotics Control Act. If there is a case, he will be sent to jail through the court on Wednesday (January 12) morning.
