A video of mother and daughter being tied to a tree in Pirgacha, Rangpur has been spread on social media Facebook. Although this video has caused a stir in various quarters, the accused torturers are out of reach.
It is learned that due to the land dispute, the mother and daughter were tied to a tree and tortured by the people of the opposition. A video of the torture spread on social media at noon on Friday (January 14).
The victims are Golapi Begum and her daughter Rabeya Begum, wife and daughter of Shahjahan Miah of the village. Two days after the incident, the video of the torture went viral on social media on Friday afternoon.
Last Wednesday (January 12) in Anandi Dhaniram village of Parul union of the upazila, mother and daughter were tied to a tree and tortured. The next day, on Thursday (January 13), plaintiff Shahjahan Mia filed a case with the Pirgachha police station accusing 16 people of the incident. But Shahjahan complained that no action has been taken so far as the accused are influential. He demanded a fair trial for the incident.

On Wednesday morning, Ziaru and his men seized Shahjahan’s land and began cutting down trees and roads, which were stopped by Shahjahan and his family. Enraged, Ziaru and his accomplices tied Golapi Begum and Rabeya Begum to a tree and tortured them. Later, when the locals called 999, Pirgachha police came to the spot and rescued the mother and daughter and sent them to the Upazila Health Complex. They are still being treated there.
In this regard, Shahjahan Mia said, the neighbor Ziaru and his men failed to occupy the land and tied his wife and child to a tree and tortured them. Though a complaint was lodged with the police station, no action has been taken so far as the accused are influential.
Confirming the incident, local UP member Abdul Khaleq said, “I have heard of mother and daughter being tied to a tree and tortured.” Victims have been advised to take legal action.
Pirgachha police inspector (investigation) Abdus Shukur Mia said the whole incident, including the viral video, was being investigated. The scene has already been inspected. Legal action will be taken against the registered persons.
