Talented lyricist and composer FH Sarkar Swapnil is no longer dreamy. He died at the National Heart Institute around 11pm on Saturday (January 15). Swapnil’s nephew Rajiv has confirmed the news to Asian Tribune. He was 53 years old at the time of his death.
Rajib said the lyricist-composer Swapnil had been at his sister’s house in Jatrabari for the last one month. That evening he suddenly fell ill.
He was then taken first to Islamia Hospital, then to Holy Family and National Heart Foundation Hospital to the National Heart Institute. There doctors gave him saline and injections to save him. But shortly after that he died at 11 pm.
Swapnil has written songs for many more artists including Bappa Majumder, Sandipan, Haimanti Rakshit Man, Nadi. Also gave the tune. He used to sing himself. However, he came into the limelight with all the lyrics and melodies of Sandeepan Das’s solo album ‘Ay Praner Utsabe’ released in 2006. The music was arranged by Bappa Majumdar.
Sandeepan, who was mourning the death of Swapnil, said, “I had a friend’s relationship with Swapnil. He grew up in Kaptai, Chittagong. There we used to learn songs from Ustad Meher Kanti Lal. Even after coming to Dhaka, the two have worked together. We have so many memories. It’s very sad to hear about his death.”
Note that Swapnil’s village home is in Cumilla. However, he grew up in Chattogram. From there he moved to Dhaka in 1988-89. The song ‘Jalchhaya’ sung by Bappa Majumder and Nadir was praised by the last dreamer.
