The accused husband left his one-year-old child on the street after killing his wife in Agailjhara of Barisal district. Locals informed police on Wednesday (January 19) at around 11 pm when they heard the sound of a baby crying on the side of the road. Police first rescued the child. Then the body of the child’s mother was found one kilometer away.
Agailjhara Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Chharwar confirmed the matter at noon on Thursday (January 20).
According to the locals and the police, the sound of a crying baby was heard near the Muktijoddha Complex of Upazila Sadar around 11 pm on Wednesday. Two years ago, Rashida Begum, a resident of Nagarbari village in Agailjhara Upazila, got married to Tamim Sikder, a contractor from Betgram in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila. Earlier, Rashida was married to Mokaddes of Paisa village in the same Upazila. But two years ago, Rashida married contractor Tamim Sheikh for the second time. The two used to rent a house in Agailjhara Upazila. A boy was born in their house a year ago.
However, after marriage, Tamim used to beat Rashida for various reasons. Rashida also filed a case against Tamim in the Barisal court last year. Due to that anger and family dispute, he hit Rashida on the head in a rented house on Wednesday evening, killed her and threw her under the bridge of Mardeh Upazila Sadar. Meanwhile, Tamim left his one-year-old child near Muktijoddha Complex and fled.
According to the police, the accused killer Tamim Sheikh was arrested from his house in Betgram of Gopalganj in a raid.
The OC further said that Tamim Sheikh, the main accused in the murder, has been arrested. He has admitted that he was killed due to a family dispute. The victim sustained multiple head injuries during the rescue operation. His confession is now being verified.
