Serious allegations have been leveled against Cox’s Bazar-1 MP Zafar Alam. It has been alleged that Juba League leader Mozaffar Hossain Paltu and his family are fleeing from Chakaria and staying in the capital due to the torture of this ruling party MP.
The victim’s family has sought the intervention of the concerned administration and law and order authorities including the Prime Minister and Home Minister in this regard.
The allegations were made by the victim’s family at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) Nasrul Hamid auditorium in the capital’s Segunbagicha on Tuesday.
Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, senior vice-president of Chakaria Upazila Juba League, presented a written statement at the time. Paltu’s mother Anwara Begum, wife Nishat Parveen and family members including the baby boy were present.
In a written statement, Mozaffar Hossain Paltu said that he had taken part in the campaign on behalf of Awami League nominated mayoral candidate Alamgir Chowdhury in the Chakaria municipality election in May last year. But Cox’s Bazar-1 MP Zafar Alam took a stand against the party candidate and made his nephew Juba Dal activist Ziabul Haque an independent candidate. When Ziabul Haque lost the election, the MP became extremely angry with him (Paltu). Due to this, MP Zafar Alam and his terrorist forces started torturing him and his family members. They subsequently tortured and occupied one acre of land, including their homes and salt factories.
He said that as he and his family continued to be tortured in various ways for fear of being killed, at one stage he was forced to flee to the capital with his family members. He and his family have been living in Dhaka for the last one and a half months. In this situation, MP Zafar Alam and his terrorist forces could at any time cause great damage to the lives and property of him and his family members.
Paltu also alleged that he did not get any remedy even after filing a case with the local police station.
Denying the allegations, MP Zafar Alam told The Asian Tribune, “Mozaffar Hossain Paltu’s allegations are completely false and fabricated. On the contrary, there are allegations against Paltu in the area of taking lakhs of taka from various people in the name of giving jobs. For all these reasons, Paltu is fleeing to Dhaka and on the contrary, he is bringing false allegations against me. I will now file a case against Paltu under the ICT Act for defaming me with false information at a press conference. “
