Two people, including a female NGO worker, were killed in separate road accidents in Sirajganj’s Salanga Upazila. Two accidents took place in the Dattakusha area of Salanga police station on the Dhaka-Bogra highway around 7:45 am on Saturday (January 29) and around 7:15 am in the Naimuri Ruapara area of the Hatikumrul-Natore highway.
Hatikumrul Highway Police Officer in Charge (OC) Lutfar Rahman confirmed the matter.
The deceased have been identified as Mahmuda Akter Mishu (25), daughter of Mojibur Rahman of Garishapara village in Gurdaspur Upazila of Natore district, and Maqbul Hossain (50), son of late Abul Hossain of Dhamainagar village in Raiganj Upazila.
Hatikumrul Highway Police Officer in Charge (OC) Lutfar Rahman said Mahmuda Akhter Mishu died on the spot after being hit by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road in the Dattakusha area of Hatikumrul-Bogra highway in the morning.
On the other hand, a truck lost control and collided with a tree in the Naimuri Ruapara area of Hatikumrul-Natore highway, seriously injuring a man named Maqbool Hossain in the cabin. He was rescued and rushed to Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital where she died.
He added that the body of slain NGO worker Mahmuda Akter Mishu has been handed over to his family. The body of the truck driver’s assistant Maqbool Hossain is in the hospital morgue. The truck involved in the accident was recovered and taken into police custody.
