Gazipur-3 MP Iqbal Hossain Sabuj has claimed that the zebras were killed at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park at noon on Sunday (January 30). Members of the investigation committee of the Ministry of Forest, Environment, and Climate were also present at the time.
He said those responsible had killed the zebras to trap each other because of their differences.
Member of Parliament Iqbal Hossain told the green investigation committee that a proper investigation is not possible by keeping the zebras under their care. The other employees of the park will not dare to open their mouths. He asked the project director of the park Zahidul Kabir and the officer in charge Tabibur Rahman to be removed from office.
The MP said a tiger also died in the Safari Park last month. No one knows. So many valuable animals are dying while the park authorities are keeping the information secret. There were ten tigers in the park.
He further alleged that elephant food was smuggled from inside the boundary wall of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park.
Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik said nothing could be said until the investigation was completed.
The members of the investigation committee who visited the site are Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Sanjay Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of Zoology at Jahangirnagar University Mohammad Monirul Hasan Khan.
Later, the project director confirmed the death of a male tiger in the park on January 12. Jahidul Kabir said that samples of the tiger have been collected and sent for lab tests. But the report is not yet available.
