The locker of e-commerce company Evali has been cut. Hundreds of check books were found inside the locker on Monday.
The two lockers of the e-commerce company Evaly, which is popular, have been broken due to lack of passwords. On Monday (January 31) afternoon, two lockers were broken in the presence of law enforcement and media personnel at Evali’s office in Dhanmondi, the capital.
Before breaking the locker, retired Appellate Division Judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik said that the High Court had directed to give the combination number (password) of the lockers at the Dhanmondi office to Md Russell and his wife Nasreen, who were in jail on November 23. The court also directed IG Prison to arrange for a representative of the new managing director of Evaly to meet with them as soon as possible.
He said, “The committee did not find the passwords of the two lockers even after the court order. That is why it was decided to break the lockers. In view of this, the two lockers are being cut on Monday afternoon (January 31).”
Mohammad Russell, the founder of Evaly, and his wife Shamima Nasrin, the chairman of the company, were arrested on September 15 last year on various charges including fraud. They are both still in jail.
On the other hand, after the closure of Evaly’s activities, the High Court on October 18 last year, after hearing a writ petition, constituted a five-member board of directors to resume its activities in the company including payment of customer dues. Former Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Rezaul Ahsan, Chartered Accountant Fakhruddin Ahmed and Supreme Court Lawyer Khan Mohammad Shamim Aziz are members of the Board, which is headed by Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik. Former Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Railways Mahbub Kabir Milon has been made the managing director of Evaly. A five-member board of directors headed by former Justice of the Appellate Division AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik took over the management of Evali on October 18.
This board conducted locker breaking activities in the presence of Dhaka District Administration Executive Ashfia Sirat. After the locker was broken, 10 check books of Citibank and 97 check books of Midland Bank and several others were found inside.
Former Justice of the Appellate Division Shamsuddin Manik confirmed the information to reporters, saying, “We have already broken the locker and found several check books. “
