A student has died after being hit by a truck on the campus of Rajshahi University (RU). The deceased was identified as Mahbub Habib Himel. Two others were injured in the incident.
The accident took place in front of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall of the university on Tuesday (February 1) at around 8:30 pm. Following the incident, the agitated students set fire to several trucks. One injured has been taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Manmohan Bappa, a student of the Faculty of Fine Arts, said, “One of our students was killed when he was hit by a vehicle coming for the development project of the university at around 8.30 pm.”
Meanwhile, when the matter came to light, the students of the university came and gathered there. At one stage, students set fire to a total of four trucks. At that time they blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway.
University Proctor Liaquat Ali said, “A student was killed in a truck-motorcycle collision in front of Habibur Hall. The matter is very sad and it is not desirable in any way. We are looking into why this happened. Strict instructions will be issued to prevent such accidents in future.”
