A roadmap is being prepared to increase production in proportion to the demand for rice, said the Minister of Agriculture. Md. Abdur Razzak.
He was speaking to reporters after a meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday (February 3rd) on increasing cultivation of high-yielding inbred and super hybrid varieties to boost paddy production.
The agriculture minister said, “The price of rice is also rising during the current aman season in the country. Record production has been done in Aus, Boro and Aman this year. Government stocks are also at an all-time high, yet rice prices are out of control. In this situation, to keep the price of rice within the purchasing power of low-income people, it is necessary to increase production rapidly. To do this, cultivation of very high yielding inbred and super hybrid varieties should be increased. A roadmap is being prepared for that purpose, so that production can be greatly increased in one to two years.”
Abdur Razzak said, “Our agricultural land is declining. Therefore, in order to increase the production of rice, the newly invented high productive varieties need to be brought to the field quickly and the cultivation of super hybrids must be increased. That’s why, a specific action plan is being taken to increase paddy production during the aman season. “
