Ashok Kumar Debnath, additional secretary to the Election Commission (EC), has said that the seventh phase of Union Parshad (UP) election held on Monday (February 07) was overall good.
He made the remarks while briefing media at EC media center in the evening, after ending the voting.
He further said, “Some 61 percent of vote cast by Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) while 65 percent by ballots. Voting in six centers was postponed. Besides, the election was overall good. The local voters were heading towards the centers, making the turnout festive.”
When asked how the voting was, he replied, “A total of 136 Union Parishads (UP) went through polls on Monday (February 07). Of those, seven were cast by EVMs while others on ballot papers.”
“Some 61.53 percent votes were cast by EVMs while around 65 percent by ballots. The actual turnout would be found after counting ends,” he added.
He said, “The EC is in stern position against those EC officials who are involved in anomalies. Many are facing divisional cases. They will be suspended if charges brought against them are proved.”
Ashok Kumar said, “Two person were killed in violence during the polls. However, they died in clash happened outside the polling centers among local groups. Local administration will take legal steps against those were involved in the incidents.”
