The court has framed charges against cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi in a case of marrying someone else’s wife despite not being divorced. As a result, a formal trial was started against the accused. However, Nasir’s mother-in-law Sumi Akhter has been acquitted.
On Wednesday (February 9), the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain rejected the pleas of Nasir and Tamima and ordered the formation of charges. At the same time, he fixed March 10 as the date for taking evidence.
Earlier, a hearing on the charge was held on January 24. On that day, senior lawyer Kazi Najib Ullah Hiru held a hearing seeking the release of the three accused. On behalf of the plaintiff, Ishrat Hasan prayed for formation of charges. After hearing both sides, the court set February 9 for an order on the charges.
On that day, they appeared in court. They claim their innocence and pray for justice. Tammir’s husband Rakib Hasan filed the case on February 24 last year.
In the case, it has been alleged that the previous marriage was kept secret while the other’s wife was lured away.
After investigating the case, on September 30 last year, PBI Inspector of Police Sheikh Mohammad Mizanur Rahman accused the three and submitted a report to the court. Later, Ishrat Hasan, the plaintiff and lawyer of Tamima’s ex-husband Rakib Hasan, applied for an arrest warrant against them. Following the hearing, the court summoned Nasir and three others to appear before the court on October 31. They appeared in court that day and took bail.
