Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Dhaka WASA) has sent a proposal to the government that the price of water should be increased to 100 percent from existing 20 percent.
Apart from that, it also proposed adjusting the existing subsidy WASA is providing in four levels.
Dhaka WASA managing director (MD) Taqsem A Khan made the proposal at a press conference held at WASA Bhaban on Wednesday (February 9) noon.
MD Taqsem A Khan said, “No organization can run with subsidy and it should not be. Currently, the WASA is providing a subsidy of Tk 10 per 1000 liter. A proposal has been sent to the government to adjust that subsidy in four levels, increasing the water tariff to 20%, 40%, 50% and 100% based on areas and consumers.”
“We have proposed increasing the water price of per 1000 liter to Tk 21 instead of existing Tk 15.18,” WASA MD added.
