The government will help Bangladeshis living in war-torn Ukraine if they want to return to the country. However, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam said no one would be forced to return.
He was speaking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday (February 15th) afternoon.
“We cannot force anyone to return. But if anyone wants to return, the government will provide all kinds of assistance from neighboring Ukraine, Poland and other neighboring countries where Bangladesh has embassies,” he said.
“We have seen that when the war broke out in Yemen, Bangladeshis returned to the country and other safe havens with the government’s offer or assistance. In the case of Libya, many Bangladeshis who were there responded to the government’s call. Many did not return, I can’t force anyone to come,” he said.
Earlier, the Bangladeshi embassy in Poland had requested Bangladeshis staying in the country to leave the country immediately.
