Five passengers, including the driver, were killed when a private car lost control and fell into a pond on Shahrasti in Chandpur. The accident took place at Purba Narah village of Chitoshi Purba Union of the upazila on Tuesday (February 22).
According to Shahrashti Model Police Station and Fire Service, a private car (Dhaka Metro-G43-3621) lost control and fell into a pond on the way to Chatkhil via Manoharganj in Comilla. Upon receiving the news, locals and a team of Shahrashti Fire Service went to the spot and recovered 5 bodies.
The deceased have been identified as Shahparan Tushar, 22, son of Siddiqur Rahman Khokon, UP member of Ramdevpur village under Hasnabad union of Manoharganj upazila of Comilla, Shakil, 23, son of late Rafiqul Islam of Narpaiya village and Rezaul Karim, 23, son of Rezaul Karim of Babul Mia of Champa Keshtala upazila. Nayan, 24, son of Abdul Khaleq of Dhanyakhola village and Sagar Hossain, 24, son of Babul Hossain of Uttar Khailkur village of Gazipur Sadar upazila.
Locals said, “We rushed to the spot after receiving the news of the accident. The car fell into the water and no one inside could get out. They were rescued by breaking the glass of the car but no one was alive.”
Officer-in-charge of Shahrashti Model Police Station Abdul Mannan said the victims were traveling from Comilla to their village home in Manoharganj in a private car.
Shahidul Islam, a fire service official, said a unit of the fire service arrived at the scene immediately after receiving the news. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and handed over to the police.
