Robbers broke into the house of a police sub-inspector in Dhaka’s Demra area and looted gold ornaments and cash early today.
A group of robbers broke the door of the one-story house, belonging to SI Azizul Haque Suman of Jatrabari Police Station, at Balurmath area around 3:00 am and took eight family members and relatives hostage brandishing sharp weapons, police said.
They tied them up, including the SI, and took away 7 tola of gold ornaments and Tk 50,000 cash, said Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Demra Police Station.
The robbers stayed there around 40 minutes and physically assaulted the police officer, he said.
Five to six masked men entered the house and some others stayed outside when some relatives and in-laws were visiting the family, SI Sumon told The Daily Star.
“Before leaving the house, the robbers confined us in a room and locked it from outside,” he said.
The robbers wanted to know about Sumon’s profession but he did not disclose his identity. As the robbers asked repeatedly, he told them that he works in a government office.
The robbers then threatened him, not to file any case, saying they would come out of jail on bail and harm the family members if they are arrested, the SI said.
Suman’s wife Farzana Afroz filed a case with Demra Police Station in this regard.
Police are investigating the incident, the OC said.
