The driver of a CNG-powered autorickshaw was killed in a train collision at Bhunapur in Tangail. Two others in the CNG were injured. The injured were rushed to Tangail General Hospital.
The incident took place at Beel Amula area of Bangabandhu Setupurba-Jamalpur railway line Upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Zahidul Islam, 28, son of Abzal of Khanurbari village under the Gobindasi union of the Upazila.
The injured have been identified as Badsha, 35, son of Shamsur of Kagmaripara village, and Rabiul Alam, 35, son of Rahiz Uddin of Dhubalia village.
According to the locals, they were going to Bangabandhu Bridge from Bhunapur by CNG. It was hit by a local train bound for Bangabandhu Bridge from Jamalpur while crossing the unprotected rail crossing at Beel Amula area of Bangabandhu Bridge East-Jamalpur Railway. The CNG twisted and fell into the ditch. The CNG driver was killed on the spot.
Two passengers were seriously injured. When the injured were rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex, the doctor in charge sent them to Tangail General Hospital for advanced treatment .
Bhunapur police officer in charge (OC) Faridul Islam said, “I have received news that one person was killed and two others were injured in the train accident.” It is not certain whether the deceased was a CNG driver. The matter has been reported to the railway police.
