The Left Democratic Alliance is holding a half-day strike in Barisal on Monday as well as across the country to protest the rise in prices of daily necessities.
Leaders and activists have started distributing leaflets and holding demonstrations and rallies in the city from 8 am on Monday to make the strike a success. They protested at Natunbazar, Jail Junction, and Kakli Junction in the city.
At this time the drivers were requested to stop driving. Additional police have been deployed in the city to prevent civilian casualties during the strike.
Left Democratic Alliance, Barisal Coordinator Prof. Dulal Majumder led the picketing.
The speakers said that the strike was called to stop the unrestrained rise in prices of food items including edible oil, rice, pulses, and onions, and an increase in prices of gas, electricity, and water. That is why I am urging everyone to observe strike from 6 am to 12 noon.
Kotwali Model Police Station OC Azimul Karim said additional police had been deployed to provide security to the city dwellers.
