Bangladeshi journalist Zahidur Rahman Zahid and engineer Saiful Islam, who went missing in Libya, have been rescued and are currently in the custody of Bangladesh’s ambassador to Libya.
Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen announced on Thursday. The minister said it is hoped that they will be able to return to the country in a couple of days.
Earlier on Monday night, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen was quoted in the media as saying that NTV’s Special Correspondent Zahidur Rahman and his accompanying engineer Saiful Islam had been found missing for five days while on a trip to Libya.
NTV’s special correspondent Zahid flew from Bangladesh to London on March 3 with a family visa on a Turkish Airlines flight. From there he traveled to Ireland, Scotland and reached Libya on 21 March. He was arrested in Libya for taking pictures without permission. Saiful was also with him.
It is learned that due to Bangladesh’s friendly relations with Libya and through the mediation of Bangladesh’s ambassador, the Libyan government has allowed them to return to their country.
