Two people, including a driver, were killed in a collision between a pickup van and an autorickshaw in Kalihati Upazila of Tangail. The incident took place in front of Kalihati RS Government Pilot High School on Tangail-Mymensingh road around 7 am on Friday. Five others were injured in the incident. They were sent to the hospital. The condition of two of the injured is critical.
The deceased have been identified as Ramzan Ali, son of Sajan Ali Mandal of North Betdoba village in the municipality, and Rina Akter, daughter-in-law of Iman Ali, a resident of Bir Upazila. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalihati Police Station Mollah Azizur Rahman confirmed the matter.
According to locals, the autorickshaw was carrying passengers from Hamidpurbazar of Ghatail Upazila to the Kalihati bus stand. On the other hand, a pickup was going towards Hamidpur. On the way, RS Government Pilot reached in front of the high school and pushed the autorickshaw to overtake the pickup. Two people including the driver of the autorickshaw were killed at that time.
