An agitated crowd blocked the UP chairman in Gaibandha’s Sundarganj on allegations of irregularities in the distribution of VGF rice. The incident took place at Shantiram Union Parishad of the Upazila around 8 pm on Wednesday (April 27).
Earlier, VGF rice was distributed in the union on Wednesday afternoon.
According to locals, VGF was supposed to distribute 50 kg rice sacks as per the rules. But there was less than 12 to 13 kg of rice in the sack. 37 kg of rice can be found in one sack and 38 kg in another. The chairman was present at the time.
Victims also said that many people were given cards in exchange for money. But those who are eligible to get the card did not get the card. Again, fake cards have been found in the hands of many.
Later in the evening, when the chairman came to the union council, the agitated crowd gathered and demanded justice and blocked him. Sundarganj police rescued the chairman an hour later.
In this regard, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sundarganj Police Station Sarkar Iftekhar Mokaddem said that after hearing about the incident, the police went to the Union Parishad. The police brought the chairman out so that no untoward incident could take place there. All this has happened due to a misunderstanding. Now everything is fine
