Li Jiming, China’s ambassador to Bangladesh, said the Chinese government was working with the Bangladeshi government to repatriate Myanmar Rohingyas who had taken refuge in Bangladesh. Rohingyas have taken refuge in Bangladesh after being displaced from Myanmar for the last five years. China is mediating between Bangladesh and Myanmar over the repatriation of Rohingya.
He made the remarks while visiting Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital at noon on Thursday (April 28) and handed over medical equipment from the Chinese government.
The Chinese ambassador said that during his visit to the Rohingya camp over the past two days, he had held talks with representatives of the Bangladesh government, representatives of the United Nations, and representatives of international organizations, including the UNHCR. China wants the Rohingya to return to their homeland as soon as possible. China has always cooperated with Bangladesh and Myanmar in the rapid repatriation of Rohingya. China will extend all possible cooperation to the UN and other international organizations to repatriate the Rohingya.
Li Jiming added that China is a close friend of Bangladesh. China has always extended a hand of friendship to the people of Bangladesh. Due to the Rohingyas displaced from Myanmar, the common people of Cox’s Bazar are being affected in many ways including medical services. He assured more cooperation for the people of Cox’s Bazar in the future.
During the visit, the Chinese Ambassador toured the medical facilities of the district headquarters hospital and various wards of the hospital. He later exchanged views with the doctors.
During the handing over of the medical equipment, Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital Management Committee Chairman and Cox’s Bazar-3 MP Saimum Sarwar Kamal, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shah Rezwan Hayat, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mamunur Rashid, District Sadar Hospital caretaker Dr. Mominur Rahman, etc.
