The National Consumer Rights Protection Department has imposed fines for stockpiling and selling oil at exorbitant prices. The operation was carried out in the Bazar Road, Hatkhola, and Piyaz Patti areas of Barisal Nagar on Wednesday (May 11).
The matter has been confirmed by Mohammad Selim, Deputy Director, Barisal Divisional Office, Department of National Consumer Protection.
He said, “We are selling three drums of oil stored in the Hatkhola area at the price fixed by the government at Tk 136 per kg.”
Mrs. Mollah Enterprise was fined 20,000 taka, Mrs. Pulin Bihari Ghosh Store 40,000 taka and Mrs. New Roy & Brothers 30,000 taka for selling soybean oil at an extra price. Besides, traders of different areas have been warned initially.
Also present on the occasion were Safia Sultana, Assistant Director, Barisal Divisional Office, Department of National Consumer Protection, and Mohammad Ali, Assistant Director, Barisal District Office. Shah Shoaib Miah, CAB member Jahangir Mollah, Members of the 10th Armed Police Battalion assisted in the operation.
