The 72-hour ultimatum to close unregistered hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers ended on Sunday. Since then, the Department of Health has shut down 882 illegal private hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers across the country, including 167 in the capital.
The Director of the Department of Health (Hospital and Clinic) Dr. Mohammad Belal Hossain confirmed this.
Dr. Mohammad Belal Hossain said, “Officially we gave three days. So far we have sealed 882 clinics and hospitals. Of these, 167 are in Dhaka, 229 in Chittagong, 78 in Rajshahi, 14 in Rangpur, 96 in Mymensingh, 59 in Barisal, 35 in Sylhet, and 204 in Khulna division.”
“Information from a few districts has not come yet, so the number may increase further. However, the campaign will continue for more few days. We have decided to continue the campaign so that the unregistered and those convicted for irregularities do not re-emerge.”
Belal Hossain further said, “We have not talked about this with the Consumer Department. They campaigned like them. Outside Dhaka, three teams have been working under the leadership of Civil Surgeons and in the capital under the leadership of senior officials of the department.”
On May 26, the Department of Health was directed to close all unregistered private health centers in the country within 72 hours. At the end of the ultimatum, the campaign is going on all over the country.
