BNP vice-chairman Prof AZM Zahid Hossain said that the results of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and his wife Rahat Ara Begum’s were tested corona positive.
“They have been feeling sick for days,” he said. Last night, the results of the Secretary General’s Corona Test came positive. Now they are receiving treatment in isolation at Uttara’s house.
Professor Zahid said Mirza Fakhrul Islam and his wife are undergoing treatment under the care of Dr. Raihan Rabbani.
“They have a cough. No other symptoms have been reported yet. They have asked for blessings from the people.”
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP chairperson’s press wing, said the family had asked the party leaders and workers to pray for the immediate recovery of their secretary-general and his wife.

The last time the BNP general secretary attended a rally in front of the National Press Club was on January 8 at the initiative of the Women and Child Rights Forum. Thousands of leaders and activists took part in the rally demanding that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia be sent abroad for medical treatment.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was admitted to the hospital in April last year with covid. Party Standing Committee Members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasur Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Vice Chairman Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Aman Ullah Aman, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and Former army chief General Mahbubur Rahman was also attacked by covid last year.
Several BNP leaders including party vice-chairman Kamal Ibne Yusuf, central leader Khurram Khan Chowdhury, Khandaker Ahad Ahmed, Abdul Awal Khan, Liberal Party president Shafiul Bari Babu and general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Ahsan Ullah Hasan have died in covid.
