Thousands of leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliates have already gathered in front of the party office to take part in the rally. Due to their location, traffic in and around Naya Paltan-Fakirapul is closed. People have suffered in this.
The BNP officially started the rally on Saturday (March 26) after 3 pm by reciting the Quran by Maulana Nesarul Haque, the convener of the Ulema party, on a temporary platform in front of the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan.
Meanwhile, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas and other senior leaders of the party were present.
It has been seen on the spot that leaders and activists of BNP, Chhatra Dal, Juba Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Krishak Dal from different police stations and wards of the capital have been gathering in small processions in Naya Paltan since 1 pm. During the rally, slogans were chanted demanding the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and imprisoned BNP leaders. Leaders and activists participating in the procession have green-colored caps on their heads.
Meanwhile, white-clad law enforcers, including the police, are ready to avoid any untoward incident centered on the BNP rally.
Participating in the rally before the rally, Abdus Salam, a member of the BNP chairperson’s advisory council, said the BNP’s program could not be stopped by lawsuits. March is the month of independence, the month of Ziaur Rahman’s declaration of independence. That is why Awami League is afraid of BNP.
