A young man named Jewel Fakir (30) was shot dead by his opponents while he was going to perform prayers in Sadar Upazila of Munshiganj.
The incident took place at Dakshin Charamsura village of Charkewar union in the Upazila on Thursday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, Harun Fakir, president of Awami League, ward 8 of Charkewar union, and Montu Dewan, general secretary of Charkewar Union, were involved in a quarrel between the two groups.
As a result, several cocktail explosions took place between the two groups in the local village of Charamsura-Fakirkandi on Wednesday night.
Harun Fakir’s cousin Jewel Fakir was on his way to perform the morning prayers when his opponents grabbed him, shot him in the head, and left him on the ground.
He was later rescued by locals and taken to Munshiganj General Hospital.
Munshiganj Sadar Police Station OC Abu Bakar Siddique said the dispute between Montu Dewan and Harun Fakir had been going on for a long time. It is believed that the killings took place due to a dispute. One person has been arrested in this connection. Police have been deployed at the spot
