Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said that the Election Commission cannot use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in 300 seats of the National Assembly.
The CEC said this in response to a question from reporters after the training of trainers on Tuesday to update the voter list.
He said that no decision has been taken yet on voting in EVMs in the entire constituency. The commission will consider the views of political parties on EVMs.
“The commission was not under any pressure from the government’s statement on the election”, Kazi Habibul Awal said.
He added that it was not the job of the commission to bring anyone to the polls. The main responsibility of the commission is to conduct fair and impartial elections.
From May 20, the Election Commission will update the voter list by going door to door across the country. In this case, the program will be completed in four steps. In the first phase, activities will continue in 140 Upazilas from May 20 to June 9.
