Bangladesh batsman Afif Hossain praised Mehedy Hasan for his support as he feels that was crucial to make the historic rescue act against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh recovered from an early collapse to defeat Afghanistan by four wickets in the first one-day international of a three-match series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Wednesday.
Afif Hossain (93 off 115 balls) and Mehidy Hasan (81 off 120) shared a record 174-run seventh-wicket stand as Bangladesh recovered from 45-6 to reach 219-6 in 48.5 overs.
Earlier, Mustafizur Rahman’s 3-35 helped the hosts bowl out Afghanistan for 215 in 49.1 overs.
“Miraz (Mehedy) bhai batted really well. He struck some useful boundaries after some dot balls and that released the pressure,’’ he said.
The left-handed batsman said that he does not plan his innings apart from playing ball to ball adding that he is happy to play a big role in the game.
‘’Usually I don’t get big opportunity to play big knock. So today I got an opportunity and just utilized the opportunity. I never have many plans when I bat on the crease. I just plan to plan ball-to-ball,’’ he said.
