Hamida Begum, a well-known face in the sports arena of Bangladesh, is no more. He breathed his last at his residence in the capital Dhaka on Saturday morning.
The athlete and organizer had been seriously ill for almost four years due to bleeding in the brain. Hamida Begum was an athlete of the sixties and seventies.
After leaving the game, Hamida Begum joined the National Sports Council as an assistant director. She later served as the sports administrator and organizer.
She was also the treasurer of the Bangladesh Archery Federation, a member of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, and a member of the Bangladesh Handball Federation. Hamida Begum was awarded the National Sports Award for her contribution as a player and organizer in the stadium.
In 2017, Hamida Begum became the General Secretary of Bangladesh Women’s Sports Organization. Within a year of becoming editor-in-chief, she suffered a stroke. She has been bedridden ever since. She could not talk and move normally. She breathed his last on Saturday morning. Funeral prayers will be held at the Handball Stadium after Asr today.
