With just a couple of weeks to go before the election of India’s most populous state. Meanwhile, a sari with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is being made to attract voters in the state elections.
Several videos about the type of sarees are being circulated on social media. Some people think that the sari is a strategy to draw votes by using the image of two leaders in the election campaign. The election symbol of the BJP, Padma, is emblazoned with the slogan ‘We will bring those who have brought Lord Ram’. The BJP had built the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Elections will be held in seven phases from February 10 in Uttar Pradesh. The results will be announced on March 10. An Ahmedabad-based journalist shared the video of the sari and wrote, “There are plans to distribute 1,000 saris made in Ayodhya theme to women in East and West UP.”
However, this is not the first time that a sari with a picture of Prime Minister Modi has been erected. Similar pieces were made in Gujarat before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In Jharkhand, the price of a sari for women, especially for Bharatiya Janata Party workers, was around Rs 1500.
The construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has become an issue for the BJP. This has been mentioned several times in his election manifesto. According to the progress of the construction of the Ram Mandir, it may be opened to the public by December 2023.
In a landmark judgment on November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court settled a century-old politically sensitive dispute and ruled in favor of the construction of a Ram temple on a previously disputed site. It also said that a separate 5 acres of land would be provided for the construction of the mosque.
