At a joint news conference after the meeting, Schulz said he agreed with Russia’s assessment that the opportunity for diplomatic talks to avoid war against Ukraine was not over.
Russian President Vladimir Putin says Moscow does not want war in Europe. However, he described the situation in the breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine as “genocidal” and called for a peace process to resolve the conflict.
