US Vice President Kamala Harris has threatened to impose unprecedented sanctions against Russia. She told a meeting in Munich on Saturday (February 19th) that if Russia invaded Ukraine, the country would have to pay “terrible economic losses”.
She also claimed that the conflict would bring European allies closer to the United States. Kamala was accompanied by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at the annual Munich Security Conference in Germany.
“Moscow has faced NATO with demands that cannot be met. There is no indication of Russian army withdrawal from the Ukrainian border,” she said.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said, “I understand that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to invade Ukraine.”
Meanwhile, rebels in Eastern Europe have said they are fully prepared for military action. Violence continues to rise in the war-torn region. Westerners fear Russia could use the rebels’ fight as an excuse to invade Ukraine.
