Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said Moscow is ready for talks if Ukraine’s military surrenders. He claimed that the operation was being carried out to liberate the country from oppression.
Lavrov told a news briefing in Moscow on Friday (February 25th) that “special military operations are being conducted to make Ukraine free of Nazis, free from oppression and disarmament. In the future, the citizens of Ukraine will be able to determine their own future.”
It is clear from his remarks that Moscow wants to bring down the Ukrainian government. “We are ready to sit at the negotiating table at any moment as soon as the Ukrainian military responds to our call and surrenders its weapons,” Lavrov said.
He said the target of Putin’s campaign had been announced publicly. That is, to disarm and liberate the Nazis. He also said that no one wants to occupy Ukraine.
