Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has warned Russia’s strategic nuclear power. According to the BBC and the Guardian, Putin has ordered the development of nuclear weapons in response to the aggressive remarks of NATO countries.
He has instructed Russia’s strategic missile force to be on high alert. Defense Minister Sergei Soygu said, “Western countries have taken unfriendly steps towards Russia. They have imposed illegal sanctions against us.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian representatives are on their way to Gomel, Belarus to hold talks with Russia. Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin and head of the delegation, made the claim.
Talks are expected to take place in the Gomel region of the Ukraine-Belarus border. “Russia is ready for talks. We are waiting for the arrival of the Ukrainian delegation in Gomel,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
In a televised speech, Putin said, “Senior officials from NATO-led countries have made aggressive remarks against our country. That is why I have instructed the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the Russian Armed Forces to keep the Russian military’s deterrent force in a special position.”
