Russia has stepped up air strikes on Ukraine over the past two days, a senior US defense official has said. He claims that there have been about 300 airstrikes in Ukraine in the last 24 hours.
Russia has failed to achieve its goal of controlling Ukraine’s airspace despite an increase in airstrikes, according to a report in the Middle East-based Al Jazeera. On the other hand, Kiev has also increased the use of warplanes against Moscow. However, the number of aircraft used by them was not known.
The U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Al Jazeera, “Most of the military aircraft are carrying out ground-to-air attacks, mainly on fixed targets. In addition, Russian planes do not stay in the airspace of Ukraine for long. Ukraine’s military continues to use its short-range and long-range air defense systems targeting Russian warplanes, and drone strikes continue. Meanwhile, Russian troops have also increased naval activity in the North Black Sea.”
