Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fled his official residence in the face of protests.

Thousands of protesters surrounded Rajapaksa’s official residence on the day. They demanded that Rajapaksa be arrested. At this time the situation became such that Rajapaksa was forced to flee his residence. The army fired several rounds to bring the situation under control.
It was reported till 1.30 pm that the protesters could not be evacuated despite the efforts of water cannons and army. On the contrary, rumors are circulating that protesters have been shot.
Earlier, the government imposed a curfew in Colombo and surrounding areas from 3:30 pm local time on Friday (July 8). The curfew will continue until further notice. And during the curfew, ordinary people are instructed to stay at home. Sri Lankan police chief Chandana Vikramaratne confirmed the information.
