Nick Caldwell and Roger McFarlane Named to 2024 SLC All-Conference Teams
FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team received exciting news on the eve of the 2024 Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Basketball Championships. Senior G/F Nick Caldwell and Junior G Roger McFarlane were both honored with spots on the All-Conference teams for their outstanding performances this season. Caldwell secured a spot on the first team, while McFarlane earned a spot on the second team, the SLC announced on Saturday.
Caldwell, hailing from Prairieville, La., received his first-ever All-Conference postseason honor after initially being named to the Preseason All-Conference second team. He led the team in scoring this season, averaging an impressive 15.5 points per game on 53.2% shooting, with a notable 42.3% from beyond the arc. Caldwell also showcased his defensive skills by leading the team in blocks with 0.9 per game. Throughout the season, he received multiple player of the week accolades from various organizations, including the Southland Conference, the Louisiana Sport Writers Association, and the United States Basketball Writers Association. One of his standout performances included a 30-point game against Lamar, marking the highest scoring game by a Lion player this year.
McFarlane, a talented junior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., also secured his first postseason All-Conference honor after being selected to the All-Conference Preseason First Team. He was a consistent performer for the Lions, leading the team in scoring and rebounding for most of the season. McFarlane averaged 14.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, recording an impressive 10 double-doubles throughout the year. His best scoring game came against Auburn, where he scored 24 points, and he achieved a career-high 17 rebounds in a game against New Orleans. McFarlane wrapped up the regular season shooting 41.3% from the field and 33.9% from three-point range.
As the Lions (15-16, 10-8 SLC) gear up for the 2024 Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Basketball Championships, Caldwell, McFarlane, and the team are eager to make a strong showing as the fifth seed. Their journey begins on Sunday night against the New Orleans Privateers (9-22, 4-14 SLC) at 5 p.m. in the Legacy Center in Lake Charles. Fans can catch the action via live stream on ESPN+ or tune in to the radio broadcast on 90.9 FM The Lion. Live stats will also be available through the Southland Conference.
