Reading High Girls Tennis Team Prepares for a Promising Season

The Reading High girls’ tennis team is gearing up for a new season with high hopes, despite facing challenges due to graduation losses.

With the end of summer approaching, fall sports season is upon us, and the Reading High girls’ tennis team is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting and challenging season. After finishing last season with a respectable 9-7 overall record, the Rockets are setting their sights on competing as one of the top teams in the Middlesex League's Liberty Division.

Despite facing setbacks in the Div. 2 tournament last season, where they were seeded 16th and suffered a tough 4-1 loss to Bishop Stang in the Round of 16, the Rockets are determined to come back stronger this year. The team graduated nearly their entire lineup from last season, leaving them with significant gaps to fill.

The Reader's Guide

Leading the charge for the Rockets this season is Chrissy Cerretani, a former RMHS standout on the tennis courts who is returning for her fifth season as coach. Cerretani is thrilled to be back and is eager to guide the program through the challenges ahead.

New Faces, Same Dedication

With a fresh lineup this season, the Rockets will rely on the leadership of senior tri-captains Heather Aylward, Hannah Goodhue, and Catherine Hattery. Aylward will be looking to secure the top singles spot, while Goodhue and Hattery will be vying for positions in both singles and doubles play.

Joining the team are juniors Olivia Bass, Marlie Carrie, and Avery Conway, who all gained valuable playing time last season. Senior Lauren Cook returns to bolster the squad, along with a group of talented freshmen eager to make their mark on the team.

Despite the challenges of filling out a new lineup, Cerretani is impressed by the dedication and positive attitude of her players. She emphasizes the importance of a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and improve, qualities that she sees in abundance in her team.

Looking Ahead

As the Rockets gear up for their season opener against Melrose, Cerretani is excited about the progress her team has made during a short preseason. The players have shown great enthusiasm and readiness to hit the courts and showcase their skills.

With a lineup that may see some fluctuations throughout the season as players find their groove, Cerretani is confident in her team's ability to rise to the occasion. The Rockets are ready to face whatever challenges come their way and are eager to kick off the season on a high note.

As fans eagerly await the start of another thrilling season of high school girls’ tennis, all eyes will be on the Reading Rockets as they look to make their mark on the Middlesex League's Liberty Division. With a mix of experienced players and fresh faces, the Rockets are poised for an exciting journey ahead.
