The Oakland Athletics have revealed new renderings of their proposed ballpark at the Tropicana site in Las Vegas, in collaboration with Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and HNTB.
After scrapping their initial design plans, the A's are now showcasing a fresh vision for a 33,000-seat ballpark on nine acres at the Tropicana site, aiming to enhance the fan experience and contribute to the vibrancy of the Las Vegas Strip.
The innovative design features a tiered layout to bring fans closer to the action, a roof that opens to the north for views of The Strip and natural light, and passive shading to combat the scorching Nevada sun.
Bjarke Ingels, founder of BIG, describes the ballpark as a "spherical armadillo" shaped by the city's unique culture and climate, offering a new architectural icon for Vegas.
While the A's have received approval to relocate to Las Vegas and funding from the Nevada legislature, challenges remain before construction can begin on the ballpark scheduled for opening in 2028.
In the meantime, the team is exploring options for where to play during the 2025-2027 MLB seasons, including potential lease extensions at the Oakland Coliseum. The timeline for construction in Las Vegas remains uncertain, but the latest renderings mark progress towards the A's anticipated move to Sin City.
